Sneak Peek into the latest instalment in the Blood Series - Blood Secrets Hidden

3 years after Blood Trials was published on Amazon, book 3 has finally been , edited and published. The tears and sweat was all worth it I think. Although inspiration was at times in short supply, the story seems to flow quite well and all the characters are behaving relatively well. Except Dave who insists on doing his own version of what I want, and of course Darius who is forever evil and can't help but show you exactly how low he can go. Eva is still learning, Angelina is still a mystery and Lainey is...well Lainey is Lainey.

So many people have been asking me what is in the 3rd book and when it's being published that I feel it's only fair to give a free excerpt. So here it is:

The sun blazed down mercilessly from an aqua blue sky, not a cloud in sight. And to make matters worse the sand reflected back the heat with a cheery abandon; toasting anything on the surface that dared to survive. Both sky and pale brown sand stretched for miles in every direction until they hit the towering man-made obstacle. But since it appeared to be a similar colour to the sand dunes, the desert didn't really seem to take notice of it, while the sky arced over it, defying its aim to reach the blue.

Angelina stared at the solid mass judging how much more she could take. The heat was a killer but she dared not create wind. In this vastness it could easily get out of control. She sighed, wiped her hand over her forehead and trudged forward through the baking sand. Although she was good at controlling her power, she wasn't perfect at it. As she neared the man made monument something seemed to niggle at her. Her instincts screamed in warning as she moved closer until she couldn’t ignore them. Something was wrong. Something didn't make sense and she was acutely aware of it in this place. She stalked towards the brown mountain, braving the heat coming off it in waves and looking for the signs Vassagio had told her of. Whatever she was feeling this was the only way she was going to be safe.

She spotted the first one straight away. You could hardly miss it, she thought as she focussed on the large hieroglyph depicting the sun on the eastern face of the pyramid. She walked round to the next stone face, her feet slipping ankle-deep into the soft sand at the base making the going difficult. But she kept moving until she had walked for over half an hour, her eyes skimming over the myriad of hieroglyphs, always searching. And then she saw it two feet above the ground. By now her inner alarms were going crazy, even though she couldn’t see any sign of danger. She ignored her instincts brutally, refusing to listen to them.

Stubbornly her fingers pressed at the symbol of a stationary hawk; felt it give slightly and then looked for the next symbol. It was an ancient code that only worked at a certain time of day. This time, while the sun was high in the sky, but had passed the midday position and was heading towards the west. Whilst she walked again, trying to ignore the searing heat that engulfed her feet with every step and the sweat trickling down her face and arms, her thoughts wandered.

She thought back to what she had read and what Vassagio had told her. Contrary to popular belief the Great Pyramid had not been designed to be a Pharaoh’s last resting place. It had baffled early explorers by the lack of hieroglyphs on the inside walls. They were completely devoid of any decoration unlike other tombs they had found. Its air shafts were also a mystery. But it had had a purpose in life rather than death. It was supposed to be a temple for initiates learning the Great Mysteries. Angelina had managed to research it further on the internet before leaving Rio de Janeiro.

But Vassagio had filled her in on its true purpose. It had been the Elders' stronghold. Some where they could communicate with the humans they looked after. Using the natural echoes it created the Elders had been able to impart instructions and wisdom to the multitudes through a selected few. No one trespassed inside the Great Pyramid. Even to this day, although some chambers were open to the public, the Elders' chambers were not. Humans had never found them thanks to concealment spells and other things. It was the “other things” that worried Angelina.

She wasn't someone who was easily frightened; far from it. But the instructions Vassagio had provided coupled with the consequences if she forgot them scared her like nothing else could. Her powers would be useless against Elder powers, she knew that. But the guards of the Pyramid were not Elders. They were an unknown entity she had never heard of. They had been gifted with special powers to protect and defend the stronghold for eternity.

Her eyes picked out some more symbols and she pressed them in sequence, all the while praying that she didn't miss any or press the sequence in the wrong order. She found the last symbol; the god with the head of a falcon, Horus. Her fingers traced the carving almost reverently before taking a deep breath and pressing it firmly into the stone all the while reciting the few words Vassagio had taught her in Latin.

‘Open this door in the name of God.’ She felt the carving shift and heard a dull click followed by a myriad of weird sounds. Dust fell around her in a dense cloud forcing her back, her eyes stinging. Before her eyes part of the pyramid wall shifted and slid to the right, displacing more dust. Beyond was the inky blackness of a void. The warning bells went wild, hammering at her insistently.

She held her breath against the dust as it settled but it suddenly flew into a concentrated mass before her, coming together with an audible whoosh of air forcing her to step back involuntarily as a shape emerged. She couldn't tell whether it was male or female or whether or not it had human form as it moved directly in front of her. Before she could move a muscle, what she assumed was a hand, shot out and grasped her neck in a painful grip that threatened to cut off her air supply.

She gasped, trying to suck in air as the grip tightened. Her hands had moved to grasp the hand, trying to loosen the hold desperately but it made no difference even when her nails raked along the skin, if it was skin. Her eyes saw only the fearsome mask which to her confused mind resembled that of a fierce hawk complete with the bright yellow eyes of a predator with a sharp, menacing beak for a mouth as it leaned closer to her, filling her entire field of view.
